Opportunities for Instructors

I want to know more...

Aren't you tired making money for someone else?

In most studios, gyms or health clubs, you are lucky if you get half of what your clients pay for your services.  I know.  I worked for years in big clubs and in small studios whose policies, procedures and pay-structures had neither their staff nor their clients' best interests in mind.   I also was a partner in a studio, so I know the true operating costs for a viable operation.

Just as the Strong Body Studio, LLC is unique in its approach to its clients, I also have a unique approach to my fellow professionals.

I want to foster a special relationship between the Studio (me) and instructors and among the instructors themselves.   The guiding principals are that of respect, honesty, integrity, responsibility, collaboration, reward & joy.

Respect:

for you:the Strong Body Studio respects your expertise, experience and talent as an instructor.  That is yours - not ours --  the Studio will never, ever ask you to sign a non-compete agreement. You are free to teach where you want.    You are free to teach anyone who wishes to retain your services.  I want to make this such a great studio that once you are here, you won’t want to teach anywhere else, but I will respect your decision if you choose to teach elsewhere as well, or instead of here.

Clients are free to choose who they want to work with.  In my experience, a client moves from one instructor to another because they truly feel the newer instructor is the trainer they need to be with at a particular place in time.   Hence, it is impossible to “steal” a client; if a client leaves, celebrate the time you had in their journey towards strength and move on.  It is my experience that many people prefer to work with more than one trainer at a time, using each for their particular expertise.

for your clients:means being on time, being prepared, being “present” for them.  Things like texting, eating or phone conversations, unless in an emergency, are not conducive to this.

for other clients: When you share the studio, you share the space, the equipment and the energy.  It is the instructors’ shared responsibility to insure that the experience of each client is not interfered with by another session taking place.

for other instructors:Other instructors are your colleagues.   You owe them respect for their expertise and experience.  If you  want to give them any input into their teaching style,  technique, or studio etiquette, please wait until no clients are around to do so.

for the studio:In order to keep the main studio area clean and devoid of any critters (4, 6 or 8-legged in variety…), there will be no eating in the main studio space.   Similarly, all drinks other than water should be in covered cups or bottles.

Integrity:

All instructors are expected to be honest in their dealings with the studio and with each other.   The studio will be honest in all matters of money and records, and expect you to do the same.  Dishonesty is an ultimate gesture of disrespect and will not be tolerated.  Anyone instructor found to be dishonest with the Studio, a client or another instructor will be barred from the Studio.

Responsibility:

I will make sure that the Studio is vacuumed, bathroom cleaned, and equipment maintained on a weekly basis.  You agree to either supervise the cleaning of all equipment used by your clients, or to do the cleaning yourself.  You agree to report any problems with the equipment to me so that I can deal with them appropriately.  You also agree to leave the Studio in as good or better shape than when you found it.

Collaboration:

We are all teachers, and we will all be stronger and better instructors if we take the opportunity to learn from another.   the Lab class is designed from Instructor development.    As an Instructor at the Studio, you are expected to participate in this amazing opportunity to learn and expand your repertoire.  Attendance is requested at least once a month.   Instructors who do not take place in this program may be asked to leave the Studio.  Check the website or with me for when the next class will take place.  Also, as part of the collaborative process, you are invited to attend other instructor’s classes on a “room available” basis.  When you are taking an open class as a participant, you are expected to let the instructor lead the class.  If you have any comments or suggestions, please wait until after the class to give the instructor your input personally, privately, and professionally.

Reward:

I want everyone to feel that they have a positive and fair financial relationship with the studio, both instructors and clients.  The group rate structure I have set up will be used by all instructors.  However, the private rate that each instructor charges is a private matter between them and their clients; instructors will give the studio the appropriate Studio Fee for use of the studio.   The fee/comp structure is designed to give each instructor more of a percentage than other studios.  The group class compensation system is a little different because it takes up the entire studio, precluding others from using it for Privates/Semi-Privates and because it takes more of a toll on the equipment per hour than a Private or Semi-Private session.

Joy:

I want the Studio to celebrate its clients, its staff and its community!  I want it to be a place where everyone feels welcome, where everyone feels better/stronger/happier leaving than arriving, a place to which people look forward to coming, a place where people connect to each other and to resources that help them find their particular routes to strength, joy and wisdom.

I think that if everyone acts in accordance with the above guidelines that the Studio will be a congenial and comfortable place you to be.  But I truly want it to be more than that.  I want it to be a place that instructors are proud to be a part of.  A Studio that truly offers the best Pilates-based Fitness & Wellness facility in all of the Conejo, Northern Malibu, and our end of SFV.   I want the instructors to feel supported in their work, financially by being the studio that offers them the most instructor-friendly financial relationship, professionally, by fostering collaboration and collegiality, and environmentally by being a place that gives you joy.   This agreement is an invitation to become part of the Studio and all that it entails.

If this sounds good to you, contact the Studio, and let's talk!!!
