(From March 2010 Press Release) the Strong Body Studio, LLC, a new Pilates and fitness studio in Agoura will be selling fairy wings, tutus and wands and donating all the proceeds to the Malibu chapter of Wings. Wings is the mother/daughter branch of Childhelp.
the Strong Body Studio LLC is a Pilates and fitness facility dedicated to celebrating and creating strength in its clientele, mainly women, not just physically,, but in every way. It offers a unique combination of Pilates, Cardio-Pilates, Vibration and Nutrition programs.
Founder and principle instructor, Emily Belanger, was looking for a way to market the studio to the women who take their children to Monarchs Gymnastics directly across the parking lot from her location. When she saw Sylvia Cochrane’s hand-made fairy wings at the Agoura Farmer’s Market. She knew she had found the answer, “What little girl could resist bringing her mom over to look at these lovely fairy wings! And how better to help a non-profit called Wings than by using actual wings?”
Belanger was thinking of her friend and client ,Pamela Conley Ulich. Conley-Ulich, a member of the Malibu city council and former mayor of Malibu, had started a chapter of the Wings program of Childhelp, where mothers and daughters join together in support of community service and advocacy.
“Four children die each day from child abuse and neglect in this country, and as a mother my heart aches to hear this,” Conley Ulich stated at the inception of the Malibu chapter.
After her recent mayoral rotation, Conley Ulich found she had more time to dedicate to this cause. “This is something that I have wanted to do for a long time,” she said. “My daughter is getting older, and I want to show her the love of giving so she can experience how good that makes you feel.”
Founded in 1959 by Sara O’Meara and Yvonne Fedderson, Childhelp® is a leading national non-profit organization dedicated to helping victims of child abuse and neglect. Childhelp’s approach focuses on prevention, intervention and treatment.
Sylvia Cochrane the woman behind the wings had been looking for a new way to give back to the community with her fairy gear. She started the business to help her father feel useful in his final illness and has always looked for ways to have her “fairy magic” make the world a better place. When Belanger called her, she was eager to help.
The brightly colored fairy wings, fairy wands and hats will be on sale at the Strong Body Studio LLC located at 5321 Derry Avenue, Ste. J, Agoura Hills.
